Study Abroad for College of Natural Science - Dublin, Ireland

Earn UHM credits for Organic Chemistry I and II Lecture and Lab (CHEM 272, CHEM 272L and CHEM 273, CHEM 273L) towards your UHM Degree as a College of Natural Sciences student.

It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that furthered one’s education in the process... CNS students will not regret applying for and attending this study abroad program. It was life-changing!
Chase Kane (Study Abroad, 2021)

"As a STEM major, there aren't many opportunities to study abroad for STEM classes or requirements. This program immediately caught my attention because it fell directly on the academic path I was interested in! Organic chemistry is a class that most dread to take; the lectures are crowded and long, the labs are confusing, and the exams are impossibly difficult. The opportunity to undergo OChem abroad allowed for students to focus on just chemistry. The small class size lets professors and TAs attend to students’ needs closely. Students could also build strong and personal relationships with people in foreign countries. Assimilating into a new culture was one of the most amazing experiences of the program." -Chase Kane

What made me apply and interested in this Organic Chemistry Program?

The first thing that made me interested in this specific program was that I would be doing 10 credits over the summer and only focusing on one class at a time. This would allow me the potential to do better in a highly intensive class, compared to taking it during a regular semester with other classes. Another reason I applied to this program is for the opportunity to travel and integrate myself into a new culture. Traveling the world and learning about other countries has always been a goal of mine, so this was an opportunity for me to gain degree credits and explore a new part of the globe. -Grace Myers

Highlights of the program:

One of the first highlights of this program was the class size. During our course, there were only four students. This allowed us personal one-on-one time with all 8 professors and felt supported throughout the whole process. I was extremely appreciative of the time and energy they set aside for us to answer all questions and created a safe learning environment. Additionally, the guided tours we got to go on with Eiru tours were outstanding. We got to go to the Cliffs of Moher, Giants Causeway, Galway, the center of Ireland, and see the multiple hidden castles around the country. With this tour company, we got to go to places that we would have normally not been able to. So for future students they will be able to indulge in Irish culture like we did. -Grace Myers

Undergraduate Academic Advisor
Study Abroad Advisor

Hello! I joined the College of Natural Sciences team in June 2018, but I’ve been an advisor at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Study Abroad Center since 1997. I received a double BA in Japanese and French, and an MA in French language and literature, both from UHM. While a student I studied in Germany, Argentina and France. Besides English, I speak Japanese, French, Spanish and German, at various levels. The skills I learned while navigating different languages and cultures still serve me professionally and personally.

I encourage all students to consider participating in a study abroad program while at UHM. It doesn’t have to delay graduation and can be a truly fulfilling experience.
