University of Hawaii Cancer Center Undergraduate Summer Internships

Areas of Research
Each student will be paired with a faculty member to work in one of two UH Cancer Center

Research programs:
1. Population Sciences in the Pacific
2. Cancer Biology

Internship Duration
June 1 through July 30 2021 (Tentative, may be modified to accommodate students who have conflicting schedules)

Eligibility Requirements
- Currently enrolled, at the time of application, as a sophomore or junior in an accredited college or university
- Students enrolled at UH Hilo and the University of Guam may apply for travel funds
- Academically outstanding (at least a 3.5 GPA)
- Stated interest in cancer research
- United States citizens or holder of permanent resident visa
- Able to commit to a full-time summer research experience (8 weeks at 40 hours per week)

Compensation
Participants receive hourly pay according to University of Hawaiʻi
schedules for their full-time participation in the internship program.
For students from the University of Hawaʻi at Hilo and the University of Guam, housing, transportation, or travel expenses may be available.

What is CREATE?

Our training program “Cancer Research Education, Advancement, Training and Empowerment” (CREATE) at the University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center (UHCC) addresses the over-arching goal to enhance the training of a workforce to meet biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research needs to lower cancer incidence and mortality in the Pacific.CREATE takes advantage of the excellent research opportunities arising from the distinctive population and environment in Hawai‘i and the Pacific with strong multi-disciplinary collaborations at the University of Hawai‘i and with the University of Guam.
