Are you an incoming student who is interested in biological research? Consider joining the UHM SEA-PHAGES (Science Education Alliance – Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science) Program!

Take advantage of this unique opportunity to join 19 of your peers working closely with faculty to perform hands-on research, all while completing your introductory biology laboratory credits!

This is a two-semester, discovery-based, undergraduate research course. In the first semester, students will isolate and characterize new viruses from local soil samples. In the second semester, students will annotate the complete genome of their new viruses and conduct independent bioinformatic research projects based on their virus genomes.

To apply, you must be able to take BOTH of the following courses for Fall 2021:

BIOL 171L (Intro to Biology I Lab), Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30-11:20 am
