    Duke Medical Physics Open House

    ​The Duke University's Medical Physics Graduate Program would like to announce its annual open house for prospective graduate students. Each year, they host an annual open house event and invite interested individuals to visit their university, tour their labs and interact with their faculty and students. This event provides a great opportunity for prospective applicants to learn about careers in medical physics and about the graduate training program at Duke.

    6th Annual 1-Minute Colloquium

    On Thursday, October 7, the Physics and Astronomy Department will have a special colloquium. They will have a series of department-wide talks during the regular colloquium time slot (3:30-4:30 pm). Everyone will have exactly one minute (sharp) to introduce themselves and present their research to the entire department. Everyone (students, postdocs, staff, faculty) is encouraged to participate! It is a great way to meet new people in the department and see all the different things they are working on.

    NOAA Workshop Series

    This semester we will be hosting a workshop series that will highlight some of the opportunities with the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)! Join us as we discuss the NOAA Hollings/EPP Scholarship and PYSO internship programs. Guest speakers include Dr. Donald Kobayashi, Celeste Hanley from NOAA and UH Manoa students who have participated in these programs.

    Johns Hopkins University Graduate Program in Biological Chemistry Info Sessions

    Johns Hopkins University will be hosting two Question & Answer Sessions, one September 23, 7:00 AM EST and one October 14, 11:00 AM EST. This is an opportunity for prospective students to meet and chat with our faculty, to learn about the program, the Department, the University, students living at Hopkins, living in Baltimore and to ask questions they have.

    Hawaiʻi Rare Plant Genetics Workshop Series

    A Hawaiʻi Rare Plant Genetics Workshop Series is beginning this fall! The workshop will kick off on Oct 25th-26th, with presentations about the workshop series and background information about the concepts and molecular work to be evaluated, as well as introductions from many of the participants who will be presenting examples of challenges in the field and lab.  There is no need to register ahead of time. Meetings will be recorded and made available. Send questions to lauren_weisenberger@fws.gov.  

    UW Pharmacology Open House

    The UW Pharmacology department hosts a diverse field of research areas including neurobiology, biochemistry, structural biology and genetics/gene architecture. This year they will be holding 2 virtual informational events to provide more information to prospective students about their graduate program, department, and the admissions process. The virtual events will be held on October 19th and November 9th from 9 am - 12 pm PST.

    2021 JABSOM PBL Demonstration Dates

    An orientation to the JABSOM curriculum will be held which includes an explanation of PBL and the opportunity to take part in a PBL exercise.

    This session is strongly recommended for those applying or planning to apply to JABSOM.

    Relay for Life of Oahu 2021

    Join others in the mission to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer! The Relay for Life movement needs people like you to help multiply their efforts to eliminate cancer as a public health problem. No matter your background or skills, there is a way to help!

    The Relay for Life of Oahu 2021 virtual event will take place on October 2, 2021 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.

    MARC at University of Hawaii at Manoa

    MARC@UHM will strive for “Hoʻoulu nā laeʻula akeakamai”, a Hawaiian phrase meaning “good mentoring leads to well-trained scientists.” The Plan includes: a 2-credit course each semester designed specifically for MARC trainees, 4 semesters of mentored research, a summer research experience, a short workshop, attending a national meeting annually, and presenting their research at professional meetings.

    Annual Campus Analytics Challenge with Wells Fargo

    The Annual Campus Analytics Challenge with Wells Fargo is back! Students can compete individually or submit as a team. The deadline to submit will be October 13th at 12:00pm EST. This challenge will likely be best suited for those pursuing degrees in computer science, information science, data analytics, mathematics, or engineering. The challenge is open to undergrads, masters, and Ph.D. programs.

    Hauʻoli Mau Loa Graduate Fellowship

    Hauʻoli Mau Loa Foundation, SOEST, and the College of Natural Sciences (CNS) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM) are pleased to announce the availability of graduate assistantships for local students dedicated to careers in natural resource management in the state of Hawaiʻi. Assistantships will be awarded in the Spring semester each year for admission in the following Fall semester. Applications are due each year in early January. The overall goal of the Hauʻoli Mau Loa graduate assistantships is to develop the next generation of natural resource management leaders for Hawaiʻi.

    Join Hawai'i Marine Animal Response Internship Program 

    HMAR is in search of any students that are interested in being an intern with them this upcoming Fall or Spring semester. You can receive college credits for the internship as well as hands on experience working with seabirds, sea turtles, and Hawaiian monk seals.

    Manoa Political Internship Program

    Full-time spring 2022 internships are available for motivated and passionate undergraduate students in the offices of Hawaii's congressional delegation in Washington, D.C., the offices of the Hawaii Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Honolulu Prosecutor, and Public Defender, and the Hawaii State Legislature. Part-time internships are available with the local offices of Hawaii's congressional delegation.

    The C&C of Honolulu offers a unique internship called the Po'okela Fellows. College students are placed in a department or agency that best fits their field of study, and gain hands-on, real-world work experience to enhance their classroom knowledge. Each intern is personally selected, mentored and supervised by a City leader, and given “real-world” assignments and projects to apply classroom knowledge, expand skillsets and make a difference in our City.

    MARINE CONSERVATION INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE!

    HMARe you interested in working to preserve marine species and the ocean ecosystem through recovery and stewardship? Are you interested in working with native species such as the Hawaiian monk seal, sea turtles and sea birds?
    If so, Hawaii Marine Animal Response’s internship program might be the right fit for you! Applications are due November 15th for our Winter 2022 internship.

    Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program 2022

    The Office of Naval Research (ONR) is once again accepting applications for the summer 2022 Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP) for Navy labs across the United States. This is a highly competitive program for college students who are U.S. citizens. Our Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC Pacific; niwcpacific.navy.mil) Hawaii office is one of the participating labs.

    Botanical Garden Education Assistant

    There's a new federal work study position open at the Lyon Arboretum education department! The new hire will assist Lyon Education staff with the organization and implementation of the Arboretum education program. Day-to-day tasks include general office work, maintaining the children’s garden, and working with children in an outdoor classroom setting during field trips or outreach events.


    Duties may also include video/photo production and editing, creating digital activities for curriculum enhancement, creating educational material, and creating weekly and monthly editorial calendars to promote the Arboretum on various social media websites.
