    NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)

    The National Science Foundation (NSF) funds a large number of research opportunities for undergraduate students through its REU Sites program. An REU Site consists of a group of ten or so undergraduates who work in the research programs of the host institution. Each student is associated with a specific research project, where he/she works closely with the faculty and other researchers. Students are granted stipends and, in many cases, assistance with housing and travel.

    University of Hawaii Space Grant Fellowships

    The University of Hawai‘i Space Grant Consortium (HSGC), as a participant in the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program, invites applicants for HSGC University Research Internships (HSGC URI) to support original research projects in the fields relevant to NASA's goals as defined in its current Strategic Plan. The program expands opportunities for U.S. citizens to participate in NASA's aeronautics and space programs by supporting and enhancing science and engineering education, research, and outreach programs.

    Native Hawaiian Science Engineering Mentorship Program (NHEMP)

    NHSEMP strives to increase the advancement of underserved students in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). In particular, they reach out to Native Hawaiian, Polynesian, Alaska Native, and Native American pre-college, community college, undergraduate, and graduate students.

    Our Project in Hawaii's Intertidal (OPIHI) Undergraduate Internship

    OPIHI is a program that surveys intertidal and coastal areas in Hawai‘i. You will work with scientists and other students to engage in the entire scientific process—from writing a proposal to collecting data to sharing your findings. You will participate in multiple projects focused on Hawai‘i’s intertidal and coastal systems. Past projects have included ecology-based work across O‘ahu on subjects such as invasive algal communities, coral recruitment dynamics, water quality mapping, feeding dynamics in fishponds, limu (algae) aquaculture, and crab population and baseline surveys.

The 7-week full time Bishop Museum REACHES Student Internship Program focuses on researching the evolution, ecology, and conservation of Hawaiʻi’s native land snails using methods like high-throughput sequencing and field ecology.

VICEROY MAVEN-Hawai‘i Summer Internship

The Pacific Intelligence & Innovation Initiative (P3I) is now accepting applications for the VICEROY MAVEN-Hawai‘i Internship, a seven-week summer program for college undergraduate juniors, seniors, and graduate students interested in building careers within Hawai‘i’s defense sector. This immersive, in-person program will take place on Oahu from June 16 through July 31, 2025. Participants will collaborate with military commands to address complex, mission-critical challenges, working in teams assigned real-world regional problems. Mentors from military commands and advisors from P3I will guide each team. To learn more, register for the virtual informational session on January 8, 2025, at 4 PM HST.
Applications are due by 11:59 PM HST on January 31, 2025.

2025 NOAA Explorer-in-Training Program

NOAA Ocean Exploration is excited to announce that the application for the 2025 Explorer-in-Training program is now open! The Explorer-in-Training program will feature two paid internship options: (a) 10-week, summertime opportunities and (b) 2-4 week expedition-based opportunities.
Applications for the 10-week summer internship and the 2-4 week expedition-based ocean mapping internship will be accepted on a rolling basis, with a priority deadline of January 31, 2025.

FLBS Summer Session 2025

The online application portal for FLBS Summer Session 2025 is now open!
Bio Station summer courses are field based and experiential. Students spend the summer gaining hands-on ecological experience in the beautiful outdoors of Northwest Montana. This is a fantastic opportunity for college students (undergraduates and graduates) to learn something new or grow their knowledge. This experience helps student be more competitive for internships and the post college workforce.

2025 Undergraduate Plant Genome and Programmable Plant Systems Research

The 2025 Undergraduate Plant Genome and Programmable Plant Systems Research Applications are now open! ​If you are interested in doing hands on independent research in plant science, check out this opportunity.
Applications are due Saturday, February 1, 2025 for the Plant Genome REU and February 2 for Programmable Plant Systems REU.

The Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP)

Are you looking for ways to be inspired to pursue a career in the health professions? SHPEP is a free summer program aimed at enhancing access to resources for college students pursuing health professions. It focuses on improving academic skills and career development for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, especially those underrepresented in the sciences.
Applications are now open and close on Wednesday, February 5, 2025!

Summer 2025 Mechanical Engineering Internship

Oceanit is offering a Summer 2025 Mechanical Engineering Internship for students majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Astronomy, Physics, or related technology fields. Interns will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience while collaborating with industry leaders on complex problems and innovative technologies. This internship offers exposure to cutting-edge research and development, contributing to projects with a global impact. Pay ranges from $16.00 to $30.00 per hour.

Akamai Internship Program 2025

The Akamai Internship Program offers college students from Hawai‘i an opportunity to gain summer work experience at an observatory, company, or scientific/technical facility in or affiliated with Hawaiʻi. Similar to last year, they will have placements available in Hilo and Waimea on Big Island, Kihei and Pukalani on Maui, as well as at UC Observatories, Santa Cruz.

Health Sciences Summer Programs at VCU with Stipends

The VCU Diversity P.A.T.H.S. (Promoting Access To Health Sciences) is now accepting applications for their 2025 Summer Pathway Programs! The programs include 1) Summer Academic Enrichment Program (SAEP) and 2) Allied Health Career Exploration (AHCE). Join their Live Virtual Information Session with Q+A on Thursday, November 21 from 2-3PM (HST) to learn more information!
The priority deadlines for SAEP and AHCE is Saturday, February 1.

NIIMBL eXperience Summer 2025

The National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL) is now accepting applications to their NIIMBL eXperience, an exclusive, all-expenses-paid immersion program designed to provide first and second-year college students with real-world insight into biopharmaceutical industry careers. Since its launch in 2019, 139 students have gained hands-on experience and networked with industry professionals, leading to internships at top companies like Merck, MilliporeSigma, and Pfizer. In 2025, seven new programs will be offered across various locations, including ACPHS, Purdue, and the University of Houston.
The deadline to apply is on February 7th, 2025.

Salamander Population Adaptation Research Collaboration Network (SPARCnet)

Are you interested in gaining research experience? The Salamander Population Adaptation Research Collaboration Network (SPARCnet) is hiring up to 10 research fellows at universities in the Northeast/Midwest U.S. This is a paid one-year fellowship where mentees will work with mentors and the SPARCnet team to develop groups and individualized research projects!

The UMass Chan Medical School Summer Undergraduate Research Program

Applications are being accepted for the UMass Chan Medical School Summer Undergraduate Research Program, a 10-week, hands-on research experience in biomedical science. Participants will gain invaluable exposure to cutting-edge research in areas such as Cancer Biology, Immunology, Neuroscience, and Bioinformatics, all while working closely with faculty and mentors. Stipends, travel, and housing are provided, and opportunities to present research at national conferences will be available.
The deadline for applications is Monday, March 3, 2025.
