Hi! My name is Irisela Martinez, and I’m an Academic Advisor for the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and I’m proud to be a first-generation college graduate. I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California (USC) and my Master's from Loyola Marymount University (LMU).
Before joining UH Mānoa, I worked as a Resource Specialist Program Teacher and Case Manager at the high school level, supporting students with mild to moderate learning disabilities in the Special Education Department. My passion for education drives me to help students navigate their academic path and achieve their goals.
When I’m not working, I love spending time with my family and friends, discovering new places, and indulging in sweets and spicy food. Spanish is my first language, and speak it fluently. I want to learn how to sign, in the process of that!
I’m excited to be part of the UH Mānoa community and look forward to supporting students as they pursue their academic and personal goals!

I am currently serving as the Interim Director of Advising for the College of Natural Sciences. In addition, I advise undergraduate students in Zoology (no longer accepting new students).
I am originally from Hillsboro, Oregon. I completed my BS in Chemistry with a minor in Art at Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR. I then moved to Omaha, NE where I completed my PhD in Experimental Neuroscience in 2011. I studied the effects of HIV-1 on the brain using proteomic techniques. I moved to University of Hawaiʻi as a postdoctoral researcher in 2011, where I focused on HIV-1 clinical research before starting my current position in the Department of Biology in the summer of 2012.
I am eager to work with students to align their educational pathway with their personal and professional goals. Coming from a science background myself, I understand the unique needs of science majors and work to ensure that the College of Natural Sciences Advising Unit meets these.

Hello! I joined the College of Natural Sciences team in June 2018, but I’ve been an advisor at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Study Abroad Center since 1997. I received a double BA in Japanese and French, and an MA in French language and literature, both from UHM. While a student I studied in Germany, Argentina and France. Besides English, I speak Japanese, French, Spanish and German, at various levels. The skills I learned while navigating different languages and cultures still serve me professionally and personally.
I encourage all students to consider participating in a study abroad program while at UHM. It doesn’t have to delay graduation and can be a truly fulfilling experience.

Howzit! My name is Leigh (pronounced “Lee”!) and I’m one of the Mānoa Peer Advisors working here at the CNS SASC office :-) You may see me in the office doing drop-in advising, but you might also see me snacking, studying or stressing (or all three)!
I’m a third-year Molecular Cell Biology B.S. candidate in the Honors program here at UH. Aside from advising and classes, I’m also one of the CNS Natural Sciences Student Ambassadors (NSSA)—so I’m in the office to be involved in the college as well! Outside of school, I’m a COPE Health Scholar at Adventist Health Castle (Kailua) and I volunteer to play cello in the community. It took me a long time to find my groove, but I’m so happy to be part of the diverse community I call home :)
With that being said, I’m pretty much here in the office all the time; please don’t hesitate to ask me for help, snacks, or just to share a laugh! I hope to see you around :-)

Aloha! My name is Skylar and I am one of the Office Assistants for the College of Natural Sciences Student Academic Success Center.
I was born and raised here on O‘ahu and graduated from Aiea High School in 2021. When I first enrolled at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, I initially majored in Biology. However, since then I realized that my interests align more in cognitive and behavioral sciences. This led me to pursue a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology. Now in my second-year, I have come to appreciate many aspects of this field – especially how it allows me to apply what I learn to my immediate surroundings. Because of this, I have been able to view the world through a unique lens. Additionally, to further supplement my current interests and experiences, I have joined clubs such as Katipunan Club. This club, along with my position as an office assistant, has allowed me to fulfill my passion of connecting and learning from others. In my free time, I enjoy listening to music and watching movies.
Thank you all and I look forward to assisting you throughout your college career! Swag.
Hi, I'm Rina and I am one of the Office Assistants for the College of Natural Sciences Student Academic Success Center.
I am originally from Kanagawa, Japan but moved to Hawaiʻi at the age of one. I graduated from Kalani High School in 2021, and am now pursuing a B.S. Degree in Computer Science as well as a Minor in Japanese at UH Mānoa. Initially, I started off in the business field but I decided to take on some challenges and I now have a year left until I achieve my degree! Besides attending college and working, I am part of a RIO called SWTICH: Supporting Women in Information Technology & Computing in Hawaiʻi where we support women and minorities in STEM. I also dedicate hours at my local library as a volunteer. Some of my other personal interests include traveling and discovering new food places.
Nice to meet you, and I look forward to assisting you all with my best ability. Please feel free to stop by our office and say hi!
Talofa lava! My name is Liualevaiosina. I am a upcoming junior pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Marine Biology. I am from the beautiful island of American Samoa and an alumni of Tafuna High Scool (Go warriors!). I am a big advocate for creating and encouraging spaces for Indigenous and underrepresented students in higher academia and professional workfield. As of that, I am an officer and member of vairous Pasefika and STEM based RIO organizations on campus such as: the 'Ilima SACNAS Chapter, Fealofani O Samoa Club, Pan Pacific Association, and the Mo'ui Ma'a Tonga club. Outside of work and school, I am an avid napper, jamming out to oldies, and cultural dancing.
Stop by and say Talofa! I look foward to meeting and assisting you all.
Aloha! My name is Michaela, and I am excited to join the College of Natural Sciences SASC as a Student Assistant this year.
I was born in Honolulu but spent part of my childhood in Manila, where I graduated from the British School Manila in 2021 with my IB Diploma. Initially, I enrolled as an Exploratory Business student, but I soon discovered my true passion lies elsewhere. As of 2023, I am pursuing a B.A. in Information & Computer Sciences at U.H. Manoa. Throughout my experiences, I have held various roles focused on assisting others, including notetaking for students with disabilities and other customer service-oriented positions. I am eager to continue this line of work and help students gain a clearer picture of their future.
I look forward to meeting fellow students and supporting them to the best of my ability.
